Damage Accumulation Models for Bridges

by Andrzej S. Nowak, Univ of Michigan, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Probabilistic Methods in Civil Engineering

Abstract:

In the study summarized in this paper the serviceability and ultimate limit states were reviewed for concrete and steel girder bridges. A model is proposed to evaluate strength and remaining life using data on frequency and the weight of traffic, results of inspection and original design documentation. In particular, the evaluation includes fatigue analysis, effect of concrete cracking and loss of strength due to corrosion.
