Load Combinations for Codified Design

Part of: Probabilistic Methods in Civil Engineering

Abstract:

Loading requirements used in current standards for structural design are not consistent in their conceptual basis, appearance or use. Unified limit states design procedures for structures and uniform load criteria are being developed using probabilistic methods for treating uncertainty in loads and strengths. Problems in the implementation of probability-based load requirements in design are described.
