On the Post-Flutter State of Cable-Stayed Bridges

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Cable Stayed Bridges

Abstract:

This paper deals with the post-flutter vibrations of cable-stayed bridges. An approximate theory and an approximate analytical solution method have been established. A numerical example, a planned cable-stayed bridge of 500 m main span, shows that at a given wind velocity (U//c flutter velocity) the vibration is still of small amplitude, i. e. still stable. The result is of significance for long span cable-stayed bridges.
