Abstract:

A parallel eigenvalue solution algorithm, based on the Lanczos method, has been developed, implemented on a Flexible Computer FLEX/32 multi-processor, and applied to an example structural analysis problem. Timing results of the parallel algorithm are presented, the algorithm's performance on a varying number of processors is assessed, and the impact on the total solution process when the algorithm is embedded in a general finite element code is analyzed. An analysis of the computation is presented to assess the parallel opportunities and benefits inherent in a future structural analysis software system.
