Abstract:

This paper presents a step-by-step procedure for doing a 400 hour, 60 Hz, 90 degree C accelerated life test on generator coils. Test procedure is as follows: 1. Initial coil examination prior to accelerated life test; 2. Test set-up, including building of testing jigs and fixtures, and the assembly of electrical/electronic equipment; 3. The calibration of equipment and the monitoring of test data accuracy; 4. Tip-up test set-up and comparison of tip-up values prior to accelerated life test to the tip-up values of the coils after accelerated stress of the dielectric insulation of the coils; 5. Examination of the condition of the coils undergoing testing approximately every 100 hours of the 400 hour test; 6. Procedure for failure analysis of the coils that do not pass the accelerated life test; 7. Final evaluation of all test data at completion of testing.
