Abstract: This paper presents an application of a stochastic control method to the real time operation of the Savannah river system which includes three reservoirs and is expected to meet energy generation, flood protection, and navigation requirements. The associated problem is formulated and the method is employed in a series of control and simulation experiments. The results indicate that the method is reliable, computationally efficient, and can effectively assist the decision making process.
