Abstract:

This paper addresses the stochastic optimization of real-time monthly operations of multi-reservoir systems by Dynamic Programming. A two-stage optimization framework that consists of a real-time model followed by a steady-state model is proposed for describing the operations problems. Effective optimization procedures are proposed for both the steady-state model and the real-time model. A case study of the Manitoba Hydro System, Manitoba, Canada, is implemented to demonstrate the applications of the optimization approaches presented.
