Abstract:

In 1982, Kent County, Michigan faced an interesting dilemma. Back in 1965, they had purchased the Fallasburg Dam and powerhouse from Consumers Power Company for 1. Without putting funds and care into the site, the dam demonstrated superficial deterioration. The problems were more maintenance problems than stability problems. The dam needed restoration work, not demolition. When this conclusion became known, the real issue became a marketing one. The realization simplified the process tremendously. Having now identified what was needed, STS would market the concept for Kent County.
