Abstract:

There is an urgent need to solve the water and energy shortages in the Department of Tacna, on the coast of Southern Peru. The Vilavilani Hydroelectric Project could solve some of the anticipated problems related to short-term supply of electricity, potable water, and expansion of irrigation in this area. The project consists of increasing the available water for power, irrigation and drinking by pumping from an underground aquifer and developing the hydroelectric potential along the diversion route. The Vilavilani Project was found economically attractive and is being given serious consideration for implementation.
