Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Materials and Member Behavior

Abstract:

A study of the bearing and net section capacities of bolt connections for material thicknesses encountered in cold-formed members was conducted. This paper summarizes the findings as they pertain to net section capacity. A comparison is made between test results and the design provisions of both the AISI and AISC Specifications, and conclusions are drawn regarding the validity of the design provisions. Based on the research findings, a unified design approach is presented for estimating the net section capacity for a steel connection.
