Abstract:

A formulation of a method of analysis of the nonlinear axisymmetric response of the bottom plate of a liquid storage tank under uplifting forces is presented. At first, the plate is assumed to be subjected to a static loading, and both the small and large deflection assumptions are investigated using the energy approach. Secondly, the plate is analyzed under transient dynamic loadings, and the nonlinear time dependent equations which govern the vibrations of the bottom plate are derived from Lagrange's equations.
