Abstract:

Minimum energy loss in a flow is discussed. The concept is applied to derive velocity distributions for laminar flow through a circular pipe and steady uniform turbulent flow through a rough pipe. These velocity distributions are compared with the classic velocity distribution equations. Also, the friction equation for fully developed turbulent rough pipe flow derived based on the concept is compared with the Nikurade equation.
