Abstract:

More sophisticated means of analyses have been investigated to determine the accuracy and applicability of conventional methods to a range of parameters affecting stability. This paper discusses a research project which compared the results of finite element analyses of concrete gravity dams with varying heights, downstream slopes, foundation stiffness, and material tensile capacities to the results of the same dams when analyzed by the gravity (manual) method.
