Hydraulic Design Limitations for Gravity Flexible (Non-Rigid) Plastic Pipes Flowing with a Free Water Surface

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

Hydraulic design limitations are necessary for gravity plastic pipes when designed for use as a sanitary sewer, flowing part full with a free water surface. The limitation for pipes designed to flow 3/4 full, is that maximum allowable vertical deflection shall not exceed five percent when measured thirty days after construction. Deflections in excess of this limitation can result in the hydraulic failure of the sewers.
