Abstract:

Several computer models for simulating river ice conditions have been developed (Petryk, 1986). All of these models simulate frazil ice production, and the progression, erosion and melting of ice cover. Hydraulic conditions in the river are computed using backwater analysis. In a recent study, Shen and Yapa (1984) extended their unsteady flow model for ice-covered rivers (1986) to simulate ice cover formation in rivers.
