Case Study?Closed Pipeline Systems

by John L. Merriam, California Polytechnic State Univ, San Luis Obispo, CA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydropower: Recent Developments

Abstract:

The paper discusses closed pipeline system and its automation, including variable pumping rates, sensing devices, automatic controls, pressure regulators, flow measuring devices, surge controls, etc. that are centrally controlled. This permits close correlation of the agricultural needs with the water supplied. The application system is all sprinklers which utilize fairly continuous flows rather than larger intermittent flows associated with surface methods. Other closed pipeline systems occur on many projects. Most of them are relatively modern in their designs and involve appreciable automation.
