Abstract:

There is a need for aesthetically pleasing and environmentally satisfactory solutions for protecting, renovating and restoring eroding semi-protected coastal beaches such as those found in Puget Sound. By using geohydraulic design principles, many semi-protected eroding coastal beaches can be stabilized. In applicable cases, the solution is based on natural beach systems using coarse granular materials to create an artificial porous beach within a confined area. This solution; however, is not generally applicable to open ocean coastal beaches.
