Abstract:

This publication contains seven papers that emphasize the recent findings of mathematical formulations, numerical results, and algorithms in structural optimization. Among them, two deal with optimum tructural design with control systems, three consider probability failure in design, and the rest review special techniques in optimization algorithms. The papers include various research topics, such as passive damping formulation for structural optimization with active closed-loop controls, optimum structural design with instantaneous open-loop controls of active mass damper and active tendon systems, probabilistic formulation incorporating risk analysis into structural optimization, truncated Fourier series technique for optimum design for transient vibration of shear beams, and allowable stress type formulation for structural optimization with linear stability constraints.
