Abstract:

Various approaches for the finite element modeling of the connection details in large steel bridge superstructures are presented. It is noted that an accurate analysis of these details requires the use of the substructure concept. This approach requires the analysis of the overall structure, and isolation of the specific details using refined meshes. The input for the refined meshes emanates from the global analysis.
