Quality in the CM Constructed Project

by William C. Kwasny, GME Consultants Inc, Minneapolis, MN, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Construction Management: A State-of-the-Art Update

Abstract:

The services of the testing laboratory on construction projects have not generally been considered as part of the construction management function. If the intention of construction management is to provide a project completed in an economical and timely manner, while meeting the requirements for quality in materials and methods, a material testing and engineering program is one essential part of the CM quality management system. The writer presents a discussion on why these services can properly be considered as part of the CM function. Examples of contributions made by a testing laboratory to savings in construction time and cost on a number of projects in the Minneapolis (Minnesota) metropolitan area are presented.
