The Forms and Variations of the CM System

by C. Edwin Haltenhoff, Michigan Technological Univ, Houghton, MI, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Construction Management: A State-of-the-Art Update

Abstract:

The CM system has slowly acquired identity and definition since its spontaneous and controversial start nearly two decades ago. The numerous proprietary forms and variations of the system, generated by CM firms to accommodate the wide spectrum of owner needs, have stabilized sufficiently to permit codification. This paper diagrams the CM forms and their variations from a contract perspective, and brings attention to some counter relationships that are inherent to them.
