Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Nuclear Waste Handling and Storage

Abstract:

Impact limiters are often used to control the decelerations experienced by a waste fuel shipping cask when it is subjected to the hypothetical accident condition loadings. Simplified design equations are developed in this paper which may be used to select trial limiter geometric parameters and material properties. A computer code is also described which may be used to verify the behavior of the trial design. A sample design and analysis problem is developed in the paper.
