Abstract:

Two new software programs developed by a San Francisco-based engineering firm determine hydropower potential, best site configuration, and best economics for hydroelectric projects. One program, Hystor, is designed for analysis of sites with reservoir storage; Hysize, the other program, is used for run-of-the-river projects. Up to 750 attributes that affect project planning can be analyzed, and alternative sites and layouts ranked according to payback. Detailed project reports are generated. The system runs on a Vax 750. Several current applications of the software for the firm's clients are described, and typical printouts for those projects are included in the text.
