Abstract:

The paper presents measured dissolved oxygen (DO) profiles in an Iraqi river in the vicinity of Baghdad City. The effect of the effluent discharges from Baghdad Sewage Treatment Plant on the DO profiles in the river is considered. Several mathematical models are fitted to the field measurements. Modifications are introduced into a reaeration rate model in order to calibrate it for conditions in the river. Conclusions are drawn regarding the self-purification and sanitation of the river.
