Abstract:

The paper summarizes the review by the Council for Economic Planning and Development of the Executive Yuan (the administration branch of the Government) in 1982/4 on the water resources activities of Taiwan. The Council set up an ad hoc board to carry out a comprehensive review on the issues and actions in the water resources sector such that strategies be recommended for strengthening the water resources development and management to meet the social and economic needs of the coming decades. The paper presents also the physical setting, economic development and major water issues that form the background of the review.
