Abstract:

Two recently completed waterfront parks in Cambridge and East Boston, Massachusetts are discussed. The Bird Island Flats 'Harbor Walk' project is a 15-foot wide, 3200-foot long walkway associated with East Boston's Jeffries Point which was set aside by the Massachusetts Port Authority to create a buffer zone between the airport and East Boston. The Lechmere Canal project involves the renovation of an existing canal barge located off the Charles River. It is part of Cambridge Redevelopment Authority's effort to upgrade the East Cambridge neighborhood area. Design and construction details are discussed.
