Abstract:

This paper describes the application of concrete block pavements to marine terminals. The Corps of Engineers flexible pavement design approach can be modified to provide a conservative pavement thickness design method for marine terminal traffic. Block selection, drainage, performance, cost, and construction experiences from previous work is reviewed. Although still less common in the United States than overseas, use of paving blocks, particularly for heavy load pavements on poor soils, will probably increase in the future.
