Abstract:

The solution of a point source (double couple) combined with K. Aki/A. S. Papageorgiou's stochastic source model is used to establish the power spectrum at the acceleration in the vicinity of the earthquake source. The influence of the far-, intermediate- and near field term of the solution of a point source on the acceleration process is discussed. The model incorporates the directivity effect as well as the radiation pattern. Both are seen to be important factors in determining the intensity of the acceleration as a function of the azimuth. The proposed model is based on the evolutionary spectrum theory which provides the simulation of time histories exhibiting quite realistic accelerations.
