Active Control of Distributed Parameters Structures by Pointwise Control Actions

by Mohamed Abdel-Rohman, Virginia Polytechnic Inst &, State Univ, Blacksburg, VA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Dynamic Response of Structures

Abstract:

Several methods have been offered to control a structure. These methods are the optimal control, the pole assignment, the independent modal space control, and the direct velocity feedback. This paper shows the advantages and disadvantages of each method and recommends the suitable method to be used in the active control of civil structures. The control of a simple span beam is used as an illustrated example.
