Abstract:

First and second order statistical response moments are formulated for linear multi-degree of freedom dynamical systems having both random load and random structural characteristics. A matrix, ordinary differential equation describing system response is discretized in time, integrated, and then rewritten in the form of a Taylor series expansion of each random element about its mean value. This equation is then used to form response moment expressions. Evaluation of the moments is made possible by the development of useful recursive formulas. Results are verified with analytic solutions. The method is useful for the analysis of static or dynamic random response.
