Building Identification: Needs and Means

by A. E. Aktan, Louisiana State Univ, Baton Rouge, LA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Dynamic Response of Structures

Abstract:

The need to conduct 'system identification' of existing buildings by nondestructive testing is discussed. A recommended flow-chart is exemplified. Existing dynamic test procedures and associated algorithms permitted reliable identification of only several frequencies and mode shapes of a 7-story test building. A direct measurement of the flexibility coefficients was possible by static tests. This permitted a reliable and comprehensive identification.
