Integration of Project & Business Planning

by Paul Teicholz, Guy F. Atkinson Co, San Francisco, CA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Planning Engineering and Construction Projects

Abstract:

An annual business plan is an important document. The process of developing a long term strategy and the concrete action plan necessary for its implementation involves management analysis and commitment. This paper goes into more detail on the market analysis and financial model and shows how project level forecasts of earnings (revenue) and margin are integrated into this model. A Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet model is used to develop these components of the business plan. This approach permits easy sensitivity analysis by rapidly calculating the effects of changes. It also facilitates the consolidation of financial data for more than one business unit.
