Abstract:

The applicability of expert systems to design synthesis is demonstrated. This is achieved by means of inference rules which can interpret design specifications in order to produce designs. This approach is applicable to certain classes of design problem which can be subdivided into independent subproblems. An expert system which contains knowledge about conflict resolution applicable to the more general class of design problem is demonstrated.
