Abstract:

This paper describes a prototypical expert system for the analysis and evaluation of construction scheduling networks from an owners' perspective. The knowledge base, which is built from the input of several expert field engineers, consists of scheduling decision rules and construction knowledge. Data from a relational database management system, user supplied project-specific information, and the knowledge base supply the necessary input to a microcomputer based expert system shell. Ongoing validation of this prototype confirms its ability to give results similar to those of a human expert.
