Abstract:

During the past decade, Colorado mountain construction has experienced a period of rapid growth. New ski resorts and other business developments have resulted in many new facilities. For the most part this progress has represented the latest technical applications of building systems. For example, the latest state-of-the-art energy conservation techniques have been the focus of much attention since the cost of energy has exceeded all predictions; however, the basic environmental and geographic differences have often been overlooked. One of these is the wide range of snow loads. This document provides meaningful guidelines for practicing structural engineers designing Colorado mountain projects.
