Abstract:

The American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) Subcommittee on Foundation Design for High-Voltage Transmission Structures was formed in October 1976. The purpose of the Subcommittee was to prepare a guide for the design of foundations for electrical transmission line structures. In January 1977, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers' (IEEE) Working Group on Loading and Strength of Transmission Line Structures appointed a subgroup to prepare a similar guide. The Chairmen of the ASCE subcommittee and the IEEE subgroup, with the permission of their respective societies, agreed to form a Joint Committee to pursue the objectives and thus avoid the duplication of effort and possible conflicting information which could result from individual efforts. The contents of each of the eight sections of the guide are discussed.
