Abstract:

In the Lower Colorado Region of the Bureau of Reclamation (BuRec), there are presently eight BuRec dams and one Bureau of Indian Affairs dam being modified or studied for modification to correct safety of dams deficiencies. These deficiencies have been identified by BuRec's Division of Dam Safety at the Engineering and Research Center in Denver, Colorado. The Division of Dam Safety determines whether or not the deficiencies warrant modification. The Reclamation Safety of Dams Act and its Amendments, Public Law Nos. 95-578 and 98-404, respectively, authorize 750 million to repair safety of dams problems relating to new seismic or hydrologic data or changes in state-of-the-art criteria. Cost sharing provisions to be contributed by the operating entities were added by the Safety of Dams Act Amendments.
