Abstract:

The Hoover Dam tunnel spillways have provided the Bureau of Reclamation hydraulic laboratories with new and continued opportunities for applied research. During the peak years of the Boulder Canyon Project design and construction, four hydraulic laboratories played important roles in developing the hydraulic structures for Hoover Dam. This paper discusses the original and subsequent investigations, as well as types of damage the spillways sustained in passing flood plans, and protecture measures taken.
