Abstract: Several issues related to leakage from unlined pressure tunnels and shafts are reviewed and discussed. They include confinement, or cover requirements relative to hydraulic jacking of the rock mass; leaching of dissolvable materials; and surface problems due to spring formation and instability of colluvium or other deposits in adjacent valleysides.
