Abstract:

The design of the J. H. Campbell, Unit 3, Cooling Water Intake in the late 1970's used some new ideas and concepts in response to a strong concern for fish protection at a major water withdrawal facility. Since then, screen intake elements employed at Campbell have been used also at many other intakes, both in rivers and lakes. This paper gives a summary of the extensive laboratory studies during which some of the new ideas were developed and tested. Subjects covered include user assembly study, header design study, branching pipe and collector well study and others.
