Abstract:

The seepage loss for the emergency cooling water spray pond has been calculated by performing a water balance study for the pond. A field test of the spray pond was performed to estimate the seepage loss and compare it with the design value. The study included the design of a field program to collect data over a six-month period. These data, along with the pond water level variations and estimates of the evaporation loss, were used to provide the seepage losses which were then compared with the allowable design value of 1. 83 multiplied by 10**6 gallons for a 30-day period. Sensitivity studies were also performed to assess the effect of measurement errors and different methods of estimation of evaporation loss.
