Abstract:

The types, extents, and durations of perturbations affecting the ecological zones of South Padre Island are assessed. Emphasis is placed on providing the environmental documentation necessary for coastal zone managers and planners to make informed decisions about future development. Recommendations are made concerning location of construction, vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic. A program to revegetate existing dunes and to encourage growth of eroded dunes is needed.
