Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to describe these events in detail and illustrate the need for better understanding of erosion/deposition patterns around tidal inlets. Periodic beach surveys and sediment budgets provided the means to formulate cost-effective solutions. Two years after the problem was identified at Isle of Palms, the beach has been restored well beyond its preexisting condition, principally through the natural addition of sand.
