Abstract:

The physical setting and the multiple-use of the mangroves and coastal lagoons of Santa Catarina State in the south of Brazil was studied. Anthropogenic stressors interfering with the uses as well as responses of the systems toward these stressors were also studied. The benefit derived from the presence of the mangrove and lagoons in relation to the utilization of living resources is pointed out; the value of the coastal systems in Santa Catarina State among the regional fisheries was demonstrated.
