Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Development and Management Aspects of Irrigation and Drainage Systems

Abstract:

Recently the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its Groundwater Protection Strategy with the objective to strengthen states' and EPA's programs dealing with groundwater problems. The EPA headquarters and regional offices have initiated programs for implementation of the strategy. Grant funds have been made available to assist states in the development and enhancement of their ongoing groundwater protection programs, and EPA regions are working with the states to identify priority needs. Diversity among the states' institutional arrangements and programs requires planning tailored to each state. EPA funded activities benefit program development or implementation and contribute to comprehensive groundwater protection.
