Abstract:

This paper summarizes the technical basis for the application of wetland protection regulatory schemes upon a number of typical environmental engineering and related projects. A number of scientifically recognized wetland values are outlined, since these from the basis for most regulatory controls and project permit strategies. Federal and state wetland regulatory programs are considered, with special focus upon the current status of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers 404 permit program and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Quality Engineering regulations in relation to environmental engineering projects located in or adjacent to wetlands.
