Abstract: A procedure for modifying an optimal regional potentiometric surface designed solely on the basis of quantitative considerations, is described. These modifications are based on quality considerations in a sub-system of the regional system. The affected changes in the water levels are shown to satisfy optimality criteria under specific conditions. An illustrative example is also provided.
