Abstract:

According to the series of tests conducted by the authors on composite rigid frame models, the compressive principal stress in the steel web plate at the corner panel was considerably smaller than that of a pure steel rigid frame. The thickness of steel at the panel may be reduced by at least 25% in comparison with that determined by the current design specifications in Japan.
