Abstract:

A management option for spent fuel assemblies from nuclear power plants is storage in away-from-reactor (AFR) storage facilities. The purpose of this paper is to preseent a new mathematical modeling technique that was developed to support siting decisions for AFR facilities. The techniques are applicable to permanent repositories and monitored, retrievable storage, as well as AFRs. The methodology and the data base are described, and sample results are presented to demonstrate the value of the technique.
