Abstract:

This paper describes methods to reduce problems in design and planning of modifications to piping systems during a nuclear plant outage. Significant differences between original design and retrofits are explored. Factors which must be considered during the initial and subsequent design phases of plant modifications are highlighted. ASME Section XI rules for repairs and replacments are explained. Topics discussed include licensing, procurement, scheduling and consultant management.
